Back!

Back to the hot!
Made it back to India after what felt like a long trip.  Well, it was,  I guess.  From leaving home to arriving at our hotel in Panaji,  36 hours.  But arrived and as expected, pretty jet lagged.  Got to the nice little hotel in the 'Latin quarter' (Portuguese colonial) of Panaji in central Goa around mid-afternoon,  got our room and promptly crashed & slept until the next morning.
This part of town is quite good for walking around in - old colonial style buildings, in equal share of well maintained and let-go a fair bit.  A bit hot, but we knew it would be.  The hotel had a little rooftop for breakfast and getting a bit of a look around the area.

As I said, the journey was a bit long - fair bit of time for waiting for the flights - but as usual the first views of our wonderful BC were great:

After a 14 hour flight to Delhi - fairly comfortable - we arrived and everything smelled of smoke.  Looking down the halls in the airport, the air was visibly 'creamy' - fogged up.  When we took off for Goa the best of the views down to Delhi were fairly thick with smog:

Coming into Panaji was clear except for a bit of heat haze (it's always in the 30's in the day).  The air around the hotel was fine, and, as I said, had shaded areas on the small rooftop.  A real mix of stuff was planted on the roof, from tomato plants, to mangoes to bonsaied trees, assorted different 'stuff.'

A good place to get the day started.

The front of our hotel, the Afonso Guest House:

Some buildings in the area:

There are a fair number more where these come from, but that's enough for now!

  1. Love the contrast in air quality. Also the vivid colours of the Paniji buildings -- makes me want to paint my living room right now! Happy days in Agonda -- say hi to the crew from me.

  2. that 3rd last pic looks like the molded concrete seats outside of where we stayed, Marguitos, but the alley looks a bit wider. Great town. One of my most enduring memories of being there was watching the flocks, if you can call them that, of giant fruit bats flying over town every late afternoon.
